Murasaki Bento

Murasaki Bento
Hello!
As I wrote in my previous entry I would like to write more often again! Shorter but more frequent entries.. Not blogging for over a month has definitely left its aftereffects. Also, I’m having some difficulties with my cam at the moment! I just can’t seem to get the focus thing right. There are some very sharp areas and some totally blurry areas.. Anyway, I will ask my brother since he’s kind of a pro with these things. :iida:
Bute here you go, I called it Murasaki Bento since the pickles are purple but with this cold light it doesn’t look pruple at all.. :crying:

Murasaki 紫 means purple in Japanese and stands for wealth and position. I’ve heard that it’s the color of the Japanese emperor, the Tennō 天皇 but I couldn’t really find something when looking for it on the internet. There is the story of a famous German manufacturer of pens, pencils and other art supplies called Faber Castell who tried to open up to the Japanese market with a crayon set but failed miserably. The same set was sold in Europe with big success so they couldn’t explain this total flop in Japan. When they tried to find out why nobody wanted to buy their sets, the company was told that they had forgotten one of the most important colors for the Japanese: purple. They changed the set for the Japanese and added purple and since then the set is sold very well.

Since it was rather cold I made a hearty Bento including Onigiri with Furikake and Tsukemono, smoked meat, carrots and spinach in one of the tires and Tamagoyaki with cheese, Caprese and melon with raspberries in the other tire.

Obento mass production! The pic nic in the wild park was really cool! People, especially the kids, stared a lot but we didn’t care! :kitsune:
As soon as I’ll manage to take a picture of my new hair cut I’ll show it to you! And there’s still the top ten award I need to do and a lot of makeup I haven’t reviewed yet. My asos and topshop orders arrived and I’m very pleased hehe.. I love the topshop blushes!

Have a great day Everyone!

As you may noticed I rearranged my Blogroll. Some of the blogs that were listed there are now listed under “Links” and a few new blogs were added to the Blogroll. One of the newly added blogs is this one:

Isn’t the header just lovely? I like it so much that I just had to post a picture of it here :nyan:
It’s a German girl posting about different things in her life, such as makeup and clothes but above all about Bento! Blogs that are only about Bento are somehow boring for me, because I like to know a little bit about the person who makes them. I’m always happy and excited when I come across blogs that combine Bento and other things of their life! But most important is that seing her Bentos made me finally want to make one myself. It’s been two weeks since my last Obento!!! I’m on hoildays now but I did one nevertheless.. :miam:

It’s a big Onigiri Family with shy children! The ingredients are really simple and it didn’t take me too much time to prepare it. I used some leftover rice for the Onigiri and a leftover, cooked potato to make the Japanese potato salad. If you look closely you will see, that each Onigiri is holding a spear made of asparagus. :nope: It was Silvankun who came up with this cute idea!
We both think they look a little like the guys in Patapon パタポン (a video game combining gameplay features of rhythm games and God games).

To take a look at more pictures and the ingredients read on!

Kaonashi Onigiri~

Kaonashi Onigiri~
Yaaay! It’s dark and rainy and cold. I can’t wait for more rainy days to come. :heartame: Yesterday Pimo from Wok Blog translated and published my Rilakkuma Inari article on her fabulous Blog! Thank you Pimo, I feel so honoured! I strongly recommend you to check out the genuine and mouth-watering recipes with beautiful pictures on her Blog! I don’t know if it’s the weather or just me but with this temperatures there’s nothing more enjoyable than to hold and eat a steaming and warm Onigiri. I love the moist and slightly sticky texture of the rice coverd with a sheet of nori. I wonder why there isn’t a restaurant or something that sells them! The only places I had Onigiri in Japan was while staying at some families and in Konbini stores. I remember that instead of sandwiches, Okasan prepared Onigiri to bring with us on the slopes. It was so romantic eating the riceballs outside in the snow. :hehe:

There is nothing romantic about these little fellows. In fact they look more like Gene Simmons (KISS).. you know, the rock band with the dudes who look like cool pandas. In case ou didn’t get it, I tried to make them look like Kaonashi from Spirited Away. The idea is from Anna the red‘s bentofactory. Kaonashi means “no face” and is a very interesting and mystic character. I tried to find more information about him but I didn’t find anything satisfying. There are a lot theories and assumptions around this Miyazaki film but I think most of them are useless. It is probable that Kaonashi’s impressive face is inspired by the masks of the traditional Japanese Nō (能) plays but I’m not totally convinced about this. Anyway, it is a great movie and it doesn’t make much sense looking for an explanation somewhere on the internet because probably everyone has his own understanding and feelings while watching this spectacular movie.

The next time I’m doing them, I’ll try to give them more accurate faces :ghihi: It was some kind of snack for me and Silvankun so I simply added some cherry tomatoes and a “yellow” carrot with some white yoghurt. If you want to know how to make yummy Onigiri with filling look it up here.

Do you like Onigiri as much as I do?! byebye ねこちゃん :lipstick:
